All Montana drivers need to register their personal vehicle to be driven legally. Vehicle registration requirements differ in Montana based on whether residents are permanent or temporary residents.

The state of Montana requires that both residents and individuals working in Montana register their vehicles with the county where they live or work.

NOTE: Other vehicle types have separate registration requirements, including snowmobiles, recreational vehicles, and custom-built cars.
